I love Tuesdays if for no other reason than to watch Velocity after my kid goes to bed. Wayne Carini used to be the highlight, but a new show by Autoweek has given it some competition.

Vinsetta Garage has been a landmark on Woodward Avenue for years longer than the Dream Cruise itself. Period correct in neon lights, it’s a little bit of Ruby’s Diner nostalgia, though in true Motor City fashion, far grittier as its not a diner, but a real service station.

When the owner had a life changing event through a death in the family, he changed courses, closed the garage and put it up for sale. I myself had dreams of turning the garage into a Quaker Steak and Lube style restaurant, but had neither the time, funds, or time to assemble the funds.

Keith Crain, publisher of Autoweek did, and besides refurbishing the garage into a restaurant, they’ve also brought a new show to Velocity called “Autoweek’s Vinsetta Garage.” Courtney Hansen of Overhaulin fame anchors with Autoweek editors filling the real meat of the sandwich.

On episode 5, airing Jan 31, it’s a focus on Design. Imre Molnar, dean of College for Creative Studies, gives a very in depth tour of the school and the educational process of training car designers. Ed Welburn, Ian Callum, Tom Petersen, and others talk about their inspiration, and Autoweek editors pick their favorite designs ( Thanks to Creative Director Ken Ross for picking my Mustang! )

Following is teaser, but if you have a DVR, be sure to record the whole episode.

Autoweek’s Vinsetta Garage airs Tuesdays at 8:30 EST on Velocity, and is repeated during the wee hours of the night.
