If you’re like me, summer car shows start to run together after a while.  The same cars — and the same owners with their khakis and straw hats — keep showing up year after year.  Eventually,  you’re only going to run into friends and other designers you know.  But every once in a while, a show comes along that thumbs its nose at the establishment, and in doing so, comes off as truly inspiring. The 5th Hamtramck Hustle qualifies as one of these shows.

The 2011 Hustle took place at Veteran’s Park in Hamtramck, Michigan (for those of you outside the D, Hamtramck is a small enclave inside the city that has strong Polish roots).  The general atmosphere of the show is a mixture of DIY hot rods, rat rods, customs and motorcycles — with a definite rockabilly undercurrent.  The only blue ribbons you’ll find at this car show go by the name Pabst.  Here, now, are some of the highlights:

Thank you so much for the write. We really appreciate it and we are grateful for your support.
The 2012 Hamtramck Hustle will be on August 25th. We’re gonna do things a little different this year and we are trying to get all the bars in Hamtramck involved and give people more of an option for after the show.
We will have our Valve Cover Racing ramp again, so make sure everyone builds a racer to compete it was a great time last year.
We look forward to seeing everyone down there again this year.
